A Clinical Study of Anal Fistula

Abstract
|

|
Over a 10 year period from on Jan. 1974 to Dec. 1983, the results of surgical treatment of 117 cases of anal fistula were analyzed at Surgical department of Kwangju Christian Hospital. The results were as follows.
1) Anal fistula was the 2nd frequent disorder(20%) of anal diseases next to hemorrhoid (64.4%).
2) The peak age group incidence was 20~40 year(51.2%) & sex ratio was 2.4: 1 with male & female.
3) The main symptoms were discharge (93. 16%) pain(54.7%) pruritus(28.2%) bleeding (17.9%) foreign body sensation(7%).
4) Duration of illness was less than 2 years(80. 1%).
5) Hemorrhoid was the most frequent associated anal diseases(23%).
6) The most frequent type of anal fistula was intersphincteric type(69.2%).
7) The predilection site of external orifice of anal fistula was post part of anus(43.5%). 8) The external orifices were located within 3 cm apart from anal verge(88.3%). 9) Number of external and internal openings were one(88.7%, 62.3% respectively).
10) The most pathological findings of anal fistula was chronic nonspecific inflammation
(94.7%).
11) Fistulectomy and lying open was the most frequent applied surgical intervention (75.2%). 12) The most post operation complication was urinary retention (16.2%).
